There may be a natural gut bacteria for obesity and diabetes

New research are indicating that the gut bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila could be used to develop treatments to prevent obesity and many other disorders connected to it. Studies found that levels of this said gut bacteria are compromised in type-2 diabetic and obese mice. Once regularised, an increase in metabolism is seen thus promoting weight loss.

Researchers also found that an increase in prebiotics (a natural form of indigestible starch found in banana, leeks, onions and asparagus) normalised the gut bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila and improved metabolism.
