We provide a lifeline for the recipient whenever we donate blood, however research has shown that donating blood also benefits the giver.
It is said that whenever blood is donated, the blood donor reduces the risk of a heart attack or cancer. The body needs to replace the blood volume lost and this is usually done within 48 hours. This process allows the body to burn at least 650 calories as the body replenishes itself.
This may attract others to donate more blood as it’s an effortless way to burn calories, however, we are reminded of the true purpose of donating blood; “to help others”.
